The Positive Side of the Maguindanao Massacre
We condemned the Maguindanao massacre which brought 57 innocent people dead. To think that most of them are members of media. At least 34 journalists were known to have died while others are supporters and family members of well known families in Maguindanao who were supposed to submit her husband’s certificate of candidacy as he would be running for governor of Maguindanao.
Although one can sympathize with the family left by the victims, the positive side of this massacre could be the liberation of the people in Maguindanao. It took the death of 57 discovered victims to dismantle the allegedly decade-running warlord in this place. The suspect allegedly made themselves rich by using the government’s resources to fund their own private army.
Imagine millions of pesos going to the purchase of guns and ammunitions instead of pertaining the big amount of this money to provide the basic needs and services of the people living in that place. Buying medical equipment that could help those people living in the place to bring their sick love ones to other provinces for the treatment they need.
The creation of this autonomous region in 1990s has not seem to have brought any good to those people living in the provinces within this autonomous region. It only multiplied the riches and power of those people governing this region and yet our legitimate Muslim brothers living here don’t even see the development they once dreamed of during this creation of this region. Most of this provinces are still the poorest provinces of the country.
