Sea Tragedy
Another sea tragedy took place again. This time, it involves one of the passenger ships of SuperFerry. The SupperFerry 9 sank in Zamboanga Penensula losing the lives of 837 passengers and 112 crew on board. According to the news it recorded only nine passenger deaths but still it is a big blow to sea farer industry in the country. Although the investigation has already started on who will be responsible for all of this, we can’ help but ask why it is still happening with all the recent tragedies we had in the past. We still seem to have not learned from the previous sea disasters.
If the proper authorities responsible in all of the inspections with regards to the safety and sea worthiness of these vessels are really doing their jobs and are really implementing the proper guidelines, I don’t think this thing will happen.
In the end with all the investigations they have done, victims don’t really get justice due to them. As we all know more of the less fortunate Filipinos are the ones using the service of this sea ferries. Some of them don’t even have personal insurance of their own unlike of those fortunate ones who have travel insurance or those applied for insurance online. What about those who died and yet the insurances that the ship owners for their passeer is really not enough and not usually enough to cover these damages?
Hopefully law makers will pass a bill that will increase whatever claims the victims will receive and also increase the liabilities of the owners of this service provider.
