ast Year, Filipino students left a legacy when they captured prestigious math contest all over the world. When Henry Jefferson Morco, 12, A GRADE 6 student of Chiang Kai Shek College won a gold medal in the IYMC 2007’s Hong Kong Elementary Mathematics International Contest (HEMIC) for grade school level students, and eight others Filipino’s won eight bronze medals are Brendon Matthew Go of Xavier School, Mikaela Angelina Uy, Seanne Daphne Ng and Audrey Celine Lao of Saint Jude Catholic School, and Sarah Jane Cua of the Pangasinan Universal Institute.

Eight bronze medals, on the other hand, were also won by the Philippines in the IYMC 2007’s Asia Inter-cities Teenagers Mathematics Invitation Competition (AITMO) or its high school or secondary level student competition. The bronze medalists were Angeline Baniqued of Saint Paul College-Pasig, who was the lone female and the youngest to win among the AITMO medalists; Earl John Chua of Grace Christian High School (GCHS); Alvin Uy Lim of Quezon City Science High School; Alister Lusuan and Marquis Alexandre Tan of Xavier School; Dann Julius Tan and Aldric Cristoval Reyes of Chiang Kai Shek College; and Ricci Ryan Rojo of Zamboanga Chong Hua High School.

The AITMO team competition second prize winners were Metro Manila Team A composed of Hazel Joy Shi of the Philippine Cultural High School (Annex); Joseph Danvin Young of Kong Hua School; Earl John Chua of GCHS, and Alister Lusuan of Xavier School.

ast year Filipino’s also won 4 gold medals, 8 silver medals and 5 bronze medals for the individual contestants and 3 gold and 2 silver trophies for the team competition in Wizards at Mathematics International Competition (WIZMIC) 2007 in Lucknow, India

nd now Filipino students won three team awards and nine individual awards, including a first-honor award for a student who garnered a perfect score, in the Po Leung Kuk 11th Primary Mathematics World Contest ion Hong Kong

Amiel Sy, student of Philippine Science High School, won first honor and by garnering a perfect score. Filipino’s who also won are Carmela Antonette Lao and Vance Go of St. Jude Catholic School; Matthew Ng of Chiang Kai Shek College; Miguel Sebastian San­tos of Paref Southridge School; and Niel Benjamin Kho of San Beda College-Alabang brought home individual second honor awards.

Third honors went to Geovin Dexter Uy and Hen­ry Jefferson Morco of Chi­ang Kai Shek College and Arvin Wilson Alba of Philippine Science High School.

In the group competition, the Philippines-Luzon team composed of Audrey Lao, Kenneth Co, Henry Jefferson Morco and Miguel Sebastian Santos was first runner-up. The Philippines-Metro Manila team was second runner-up in their grouping and also won a merit award for overall performance in the contest. The team is composed of Carmela Antonette Lao, Vance Go, Matthew Ng and Arvin Wilson Alba.
